HR 1147: The Bill to Eradicate Conservative Talk Radio

HR 1147 could mean very bad news for a few newsmakers like Rush, Hannity and Beck.
HR 1147, AKA The Local Community Radio Act, was overwhelmingly voted favorably by a House subcommittee on Friday October 9, 2009. HR 1147 is essentially a bill that would open the airwaves to hundreds of local independent radio stations with the intent to push conservative syndicated radio shows off the air.

The Free Press Action Fund (which is trying to shut down free press) and their allies are making a final push to ensure that all of Congress votes for this terrible bill... right now! The Prometheus Radio Project has collaborated all summer long with dozens of economic, social, and media justice groups to take action to pass the Local Community Radio Act (HR 1147/S592).

The Local Community Radio Act HR 1147 would expand Low Power FM radio stations and open the airwaves up to potentially tens of thousands of new community radio stations across the country. This is what they plan to do next:

Our lobbyist needs to visit 40 more offices on the Hill to get us to over 100 co-sponsors
We need to keep building support from leaders and organizations across the political spectrum
We need to mobilize activists in key congressional districts to keep the pressure on Congress

Not only is this the first step in shutting down conservative talk radio, but it's also a radical swing towards eradicating free speech. This particular threat is moving quickly due to lax attention and because the name just sounds so innocent.

Ultimately, we in America live day to day falsely taking for granted that our freedoms, such as the First Amendment, are forever protected. Keep in mind, as we snooze, many radical groups are pushing this agenda forward.
